Operation and control system
Diesel generator set operation and control system and accompanying equipment is placed in a metal box mounted on a general frame. A switch box may be located both on the right and on the left of the diesel generator. When ordering a diesel generator set to be installed in a container or in a specially equipped room, the location of a switch box must be specially specified, as for convenient service it is necessary to provide an easy access to the control system.
PCC digital control system (Power CommandTM Control) automatically starts and stops the diesel generator, regulates the engine crankshaft rotation speed, and, if necessary, ensures parallel work of several diesel generators. PCC also continually monitors the condition of the engine, the generator and all systems, and ensures automatic shutdown in case of a diesel generator trouble or failure.
PCC receives information on the diesel generator work from various sensors located in the engine, the generator and additional systems. PCC transforms the received analog data into digital form and analyzes them using a built-in microprocessor. All diesel generator set parameters are continuously monitored. In case of any trouble, PCC gives a fault message, which is introduced into the memory and may be reviewed by the operator immediately or afterwards. Fault message can be of three types:
«Warning» - a message about the occurrence of a fault which is noncritical for further work of a diesel generator. Is given in the form of indication, including remotely.
«Fault» - a message about the occurrence of a fault which is critical for further work of a diesel generator. If a fault occurs, the operation and control system will switch off the load, giving the possibility to the diesel generator set to work for some time to cool down. After that it will shut down the unit
«Shutdown» - a message about the occurrence of a fault which is really critical for further work of a diesel generator. In this case the operation and control system will switch off the load and stop the unit immediately, without running to cool down.
