Automatic circuit breaker
Automatic circuit breaker is used to disconnect the load from the generator in case of overload and short-circuit currents.
Besides, motor driven circuit breakers (usually of direct current) are used in case of connection of two or more generators to a common wire for parallel work for common load (in order to ensure the backup and/or buildup of the power plant output).
Generator circuit breakers for the rated current of up to 1250 A are placed in a load connection chamber installed on the generator and connected to the output terminal chamber of alternating current. The customer's cables enter the circuit breaker via cable glands on its lower or side wall. Generator circuit breakers for the current over 1250 A are installed in a separate cabinet. In case of such arrangement the control board is placed on the generator on an antivibration mounting.
Cummins company allows operating single diesel generator sets, equipped with control panels supporting AmpSentryTM protection technology (PCC2100, 3100 and 3201 panels) without a separate circuit breaker.
